My Individual Healthcare Plan

It is the role of the government at its most basic form to protect the life, liberty and property of individuals within its prescribed jurisdiction. All efforts, legislation, and jurisprudence should reflect this role within government. Philosophers and politicians, such as Thoreau and Jefferson, have expounded upon these principles since the inception of the United States.

On the same note the Libertarian Party on the national level has affirmed this role of the government in saying, “Government exists to protect the rights of every individual including life, liberty and property”. Similarly the Libertarian Party of Utah has declared that it is the role of one of the branches of government to protect the individual's right to life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness.

Often this protection of life liberty and property has been prescribed to the law enforcement branch of the government, however, this ideal does not adequately address all forms of infringement of the right to life of the individual.

This being said, I am proud to announce one of my major campaign principles:

As it is the role of the government to protect the life liberty and property of every individual against outside influence, issues where immanency of death due to viruses, infections, organ failure, etc. must be addressed. Additionally it should be noted that it is the right of every individual to involve him or her in a government or seek out a private entity that provides a similar service, and that the taxes of the individuals not enrolled in this program should not be used.

The program would be to provide services to those enrolled, wherein the threat of life is imminent, free of charge. The program would be under the jurisdiction of the Utah Department of Health who would ensure those enrolled provided this vital care for individuals.

The funding for the Individual Healthcare Plan would be assessed monthly and distributed according to tax brackets so that those individuals without the monetary ability to pay for such a program are able to enroll in a program. Additionally this form of taxation is to be the only way in which the IHP will be funded so that those who do not wish to enroll in the program will not be affected or have their taxes used for a program with which they do not wish to be associated.

The IHP is not meant to be a substitute for private healthcare plans, nor does it cover preventative medicine or treatment. The IHP is meant to ensure that the length of individuals’ lives are not dictated by their ability to pay for large sums of medical bills that may suddenly be incurred.

Lastly, the IHP will alleviate many private providers from the massive burden of paying large sums of money for these programs, thus lowering the cost of private healthcare plans to the residents of Utah.
